It will come shortly after release of chapter 3, and for chapter 3 owners, exclusively! Marvellous, isn't it?

And it's not all! You'll get even more! Not a collectibles tab, no. Not a second gold tab, neither - Imagine, Reconnect is on it's way! Reconnect! Isn't it awesome? I'm so excited about it!

It will come shortly after release of chapter 4, and for chapter 4 owners, exclusively! Marvellous, isn't it?

Exactely as James Phinney told us:

We think of interface and the basic features in GW as something we are going to improve and update, for free, for anyone who has ever bought any chapter of GW. We won't make buying a new chapter a requirement to get such upgrades. (New chapters are for getting new content.)
Isn't it great? You know, we at ANet are always happy to learn about your desires, and we love it to surprise you! Whow, I'm so excited about this - should we do a conga?

Have fun!

When did we ever ask anet for more rare and common material tabs/storage? I must have missed all those threads of us begging for those.

It doesn't help me all that much; I keep all my crafting materials on-hand since I salvage so much. But you know I can get a bit of use out of it.

Anyway people keep on quoting that interview and saying it should be for all chapters. However it says interface and basic features, like trading improvements, UI redesign, etc will be common across chapters. A special crafting materials tab is not a "basic feature" needed to use the game. It's just a little something extra they put in to encourage people to buy thier new content.

If you've tricked yourself into thinking that they promised you every non-chapter specific feature, that's your problem.

Default I would like to have more for common and less for not common

This is going to free 4/5 of my Storage (since that's where I keep these materials), so I'm very happy with this change. I do think it's kinda weird that we have as many slots for common materials than for rare ones - wouldn't these be, well, rarer anyway?

I love this storage improvement

For me it gives me around the 25 extra slots since I keep many materials.

I am hoping for some improvements:

-dye tab
-armour tab
-special event items tab (this will save me ALOT of space)
-...

About the discussion thats its only for faction users, Anet is a bussiness and they want more ppl to buy factions, all the small things like extra storage space can help.

Anyways, I like the idea of these tabs and I see them improving this system (wich is a great idea) more and more.

Thank you Anet

OK, I have held off posting until now, but I want to say a few things.

1) Before I criticize Anet, I want to see this actually deployed. Until then, this whole thread is just rumor.

2) I don't think a Materials tab is a good idea...AT ALL. Materials, Rare Mats, Dyes and Runes are meant to be market driven. Allowing people to hoard these items for free will seriously impact the Trader value of all of these items.

You see, you CAN hoarde them now, but at the cost of storage slots. For certain high value materials this is OK. It's also OK for short term storage (ie: saving mats for a new set of armor)

But if this is implemented the prices of most materials will plummet to zero. Is that good or bad? I don't know, but it IS a major change to a part of the game that ISN'T broken.

Materials Storage and Materials Trading are working fine, don't fix it if it isn't broke.

3) What we URGENTLY need is ARMOR STORAGE. I have 6 FULL SETS of armor for Carinae alone. She wants to buy two more full sets and a few misc. pieces from other sets as well.

Additionally, a storage full of armor is whats keeping me from purchasing sets for some of my other characters.

Yeah, this has been brought up before, and it is still valid.

James Phinney told us that we would not be required to buy new chapters to get enhancements. The way that this enhancement is being advertised means that James Phinney (and Jeff Strain, and Gaile Gray, and everyone else from Anet that promised us that we would not be required to buy new chapters to get enhancements such as these) lied to us.

I am well aware that this quote doesn't specifically mention storage enhancements. It mentions a build saver, trade enhancements, ingame mail and LFG enhancements. To say that these enhancements somehow fall into a different category which will be given freely, and that the upcoming storage enhancement is excluded from the "free enhancements" blanket is nitpicking at its finest. Grasping at straws ftw.

1. I'm a gigantic ANet fanboy. I love this company.

2. I own Factions. I will get this enhancement.

3. If only Factions customers get this enhancement and Prophecies customers do not, then we have all been lied to.

4. If ANet is going to start going back on their promises, they will lose fans, sales, and credibility.

Mr. Strain and Mr. Phinney: A promise is a promise. If you want to keep your customers, keep your word.

Another major question was about improvements to the functionality of the interface. We asked James what was coming up in the form of improvements or changes that would address concerns from players.

James: We think of interface and the basic features in GW as something we are going to improve and update, for free, for anyone who has ever bought any chapter of GW. We won't make buying a new chapter a requirement to get such upgrades. (New chapters are for getting new content.) Things like saving character builds, a mail system to get in touch with people who are off-line, more player statistics and much, much, much better ways to trade goods are all planned for the future. Other popular requests are having a way to communicate that you are ready to go, to show that you are AFK, or to give some sort of sign that you are looking for a party. All three of these things are also going to be addressed and will be included at some point in the future.

extra storage is new content not an improvement in game mechanics

you dont get what you think you deserve and all you can do is whine that everybody lied to you.

long time no argue loviatar.care to enlighten everyone as to how you translated "the devs are looking at many ways to IMPROVE storage to make it more effecient"(gaile) into new storage content.remember the key word here is improve.

I disagree with this extra storage space for materials only. Why not extra storage and put whatever we want in it and everyone's happy, I don't collect materials so this update is useless for me (and I'm sure many think it this way). Sorry i find the work on this one a total waste of time

yup

i am refering to what Jeff Strain said in an interview early on where he defined improvements to the game engine/gui/playability (improved trading reconnect etc) were going to be given to all at no extra charge as it affected the entire game anyway as a build.

he also stated the things outside a game *build* such as new content were going to be charged for.

both chapters get the direct x upgrade because it affected the build not just a chapter for example

go back in this thread and read a few pages, its been stated, why they cant just make more all purpose storage spots, its all about the servers and how much stress they can hold.

and its not because its a free online play game, many pay mmo's don’t ever see storage upgrades.

and really, no matter how anet upgrades it, people will still complain, you cant really satisfy an internet community, the online part + being anonymous taints people with EVIL.

I'm glad for any storage upgrade. I don't care that it is chapter specific or that they will make any future upgrades chapter specific. It makes me glad I bought the chapter and that I'm getting a special little bonus for it. I felt the same way when Sorrow's Furnace was added. I don't care what the lead devs said before. I just know I like it.

The only core feature I would be concerned with adding to all chapters are things that would break the game if they didn't implement it on the general game engine.

Personally I like the new material storage idea.
Theres a lot better organization for my materials and crap, i have a mule just for those materials...And since I already bought Factions I dont get screwed out of it, although I can understand the outrage of some people.
I want to see armor storage though, perhaps something like 5 slots for feet armor 5 slots for leggings 20 slots for headpieces(cause most people have a ton of headpieces) and like 10 slots for these special event items...I like it all assigned, keeps my ass organized

Not only is this a joke but a crock of crap. I don`t need material storage, I don`t store material at all but I do have a Pumkinhead, Santa hat, Deer antlers, Candy cane axe, Candy cane bow, Gingerbread shields, Peppermint shield, 2 mimi pets, Tengu mask and very soon a Dragon mask, plus dyes of every color. I need storage, storage so I don`t have to jump through a hoop to use any of these things by switching to my mule little lone having to use one of my character slots as a mule for all the free crap they`ve given me. I very disappointed.

I agree with this whole post. That makes the most sense. We need more armor storage the most. Hoarding materials will seriously affect the market, and really, we only hoard materials for two reasons: A) To make money when the prices go up; and B) To save up for weapon and/or armor purchases. Either way, the intent isn't the hoarding itself, it's to hold until you're ready to dump it.

The armor sets you keep. You're not saving armor pieces to dump at some later date, you're always going to have the armor sets (unless you're upgrading). Hoarding armor sets isn't affecting anyone, but it is taking up lots of useful space.

They might have done their homework into what people use most of their storage room for, but that doesn't necessarily mean we want extra space for that, we can make do. It's temporary, it comes and goes, and it stacks. We're good on materials. Hell, extra room for customized weapons would be better than this. That's something else we rarely get rid of.

Maybe customized weapons and armor will be next for storage improvements. But really, they should've been first.

Materials storage is a good idea, both the rich and poor players can benefit from it. But I, like many other players, prefer armor storage instead. I have multiple sets of armor on a few of my characters because different builds often require different rune sets and is more beneficial with different armor types. At minimum, you would have several different head pieces since they boost different attributes, if you want to have various builds on the same character. Also, there are several different holiday hats.

I think a good idea for making an armor storage is having a tab in the storage that only stores items for a particular character (not sure if this will be difficult to implement since its quite different from normal storage which is shared). So each character would have a personal storage bin (maybe 30 slots?) for stuff that isn't shared across the account. Only customized items (or maybe non-weapon customized items) can be placed into the bin, which should take care of several different sets of armor. There is no need to share across the entire account because only one character can use the armor anyways. Also, this helps prevent clutter from having 3 or 4 different characters and putting all their sets of armor into a big armor closet. Having one big closet for the acccount would be confusing (digging through 50 slots for pieces of armor for 6 different characters, many of which look similar) and we need many slots in order to hold different armor sets (at one extra set of armor per character, that is 30 slots, and there are also many holiday hats).

The original reason why storage isn't bigger is that ANet wants people to have to choose to keep some items and to sell some others. It's actually good for the market, otherwise people just hoard everythign they find. If we only allow customized items to be put into this special storage, then players must still choose which items to save and which to sell to merchant or trade to other players. With all these holidays, we are holding a lot of extra weight.

I'm not disagreeing with per se Loviatar, but I think it slightly dubious calling extra storage 'new content'. I would have classed storage as a 'basic feature'.

I'm not bothered personally either way, as I have Factions and my mule serves me well enough - but I feel for the Prophs-only players.

-Good improvement
-People (and me) will be more happy if it is implented for all chapters. No need to make people dissapointed when putting only in Factions. That won't boost the sales at all. It is like removing the 20$ toner from a printer for 1000$. Maybe there is another reason for that?
